As a non-competitive event, there are no winners or losers on the Andy Mort Tour.
But there is a trophy on offer to one lucky crew: the coveted FAB Award.
Presented in memory of long-standing 2300 Club member Fred Arthur Blundell, it goes to the best presented car on the day.
Judged in secret during the Tour, the winner will also receive a prize kindly donated by former SD34 road rally champion and well-known stage navigator Terry Martin.
“We are lucky to have some beautifully prepared machinery on the Andy Mort Tour, which means picking a winner is always very difficult, “ explained one of the judges.
“We look for a car where the owners passion literally shines through, we see cars with lots of family history, amazingly-built modified cars, and fabulous, totally original cars.
“The judges enjoy talking to the owners, seeing and hearing their stories. We make a short list, and the winner is announced at the prize-giving ceremony at the finish. But be warned, if the winner has gone home, the trophy goes to the next person on the list!”
The inaugural FAB Award, presented on the 2019 event, went to Tour regulars John Sharples and Catherine Gaskell with their magnificent, self-built DAX Cobra.
And it’s no trailer queen either, having been to Le Mans twice, toured Northern Spain, and exhibited at the Euro Cobra meet in Austria.
“I knew Fred through his role as Chief Marshal and Results Co-Ordinator for many years on the Tour of Mull, and then latterly when we were both on the equipment team, “ explained John.
“He was a lovely man and a good friend to me, so it meant a lot when my name was called out.
“We’ve done every Andy Mort Tour and will be out again next month in a new AK 427 Cobra. It would be nice to win it again, but there are some wonderful cars on the entry list.
