The 2300 Club of Blackburn is pressing ahead with plans for the 2021 Andy Mort Tour.
Covid restrictions permitting, the club are hoping to run the one-day event on Saturday October 16.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed that the Coronavirus pandemic will have eased sufficiently in the next eight months to enable us to go ahead with the tour,” explained club chairman Neil Molyneux.
“Even if we were unable to run it as in previous years, the club have a flexible plan in place to allow us to run a socially distanced, and socially responsible, event which would comply with government guidelines.”
Originally scheduled for Saturday, October 23, the Andy Mort Tour has been brought forward a week in order to avoid a clash with the proposed Devils Own Rally, organised by Kirkby Lonsdale Motor Club.
“If the restrictions are eased towards the end of the year, we anticipate a busy calendar of events and a lot of pent-up demand from enthusiasts wanting to shake off the cobwebs and enjoy a good day out,” added Neil.
As a Touring Assembly, there is no competition element to the Andy Mort Tour, although crews will be required to follow the tulip road book and visit the code board checkpoints to ensure the correct route is adhered to.
The entire route takes place on sealed roads and can be safely driven in a standard road car, there is no need for special modifications.
It is run in honour of 2300 Club stalwart Andy Mort who was competition liaison officer on the Tour of Mull Rally for many years, and a top National-level navigator in his own right. He sadly lost his life in an accident on the 2015 Mull Rally.
