Consistency is the key to success for Emily and Liam

Another top five result from Liam Clark and Emily Easton-Page has moved the pair up the leaderboard of the BTRDA Gold Star Rally Championship.

Emily, our reigning John Easson Award winner, and Liam were in sparkling form on last weekend’s Kielder Forest Stages, where speed and consistency netted them a superb fifth overall and second in class in their Fiesta Rally2.

That result has moved Emily into third overall in the co-drivers standings and Liam into fourth place in the fiercely-contested drivers table.
Said Emily: “We were really pleased with our result. Liam hadn’t been able to test beforehand, so we had a slightly slower start, as it takes a stage or two to get into the groove. But once he was, we had a really consistent pace, just a second a mile behind the winner Matthew Hirst.

“The car ran faultlessly and Liam was very happy with the set-up and the reliability of the car, thanks to Alan Causey Autosport, who look after it. “Although we’ve not tested the limits of the Fiesta Rally2 yet, we did have one or two scary moments on a couple of the stages, including getting very sideways on the approach to a narrow bridge. That was real ‘Ari Vatanen Oh Dear God’ moment!”

The pair are back in BTRDA action on July 13 for the Nicky Grist Stages, and approach the Welsh gravel event full of confidence.
Added Emily: “There’s a really good rapport between Liam and myself in the car. We are both still on a steep learning curve but it feels like we are definitely heading in the right direction.”
