Johnnie Mackay has made a last-minute entry to this weekend’s Memorial Garden Stages at RM Condor, near Arbroath.
The reigning John Easson Award winner is contesting the single venue event as an extended test session for his new car – and himself.
Johnnie endured a difficult start to his Scottish Rally Championship campaign when he was forced to retire from the opening round, the Snowman Rally, with propshaft failure on his Mitsubishi Evo7.
“It wasn’t the start we wanted, but we’ve identified what caused the issue and replaced the whole propshaft, just to be safe,” he explained.
“The event is a round of the Scottish Tarmack Championship, so it’s an ideal event to test myself and the car. We need to get some miles in before the second round of the SRC, the Speyside Stage, next month, so it made perfect sense.”
Johnnie and co-driver Michael Cruikshank are seeded at car four, with the event comprising six stages totalling 48 miles. RM Condor is home to the 45 Commando Group, which includes the 45 Commando Royal Marines and the 3 Commando Brigade.
