Disappointing non-finish on home event

Wow! The voyonic Grampian Rally brought together some thrilling rally competition this weekend. Starting In Banchroy on Friday afternoon and the home event of our John Easson Award winner Emily Easton-Page who was co-driving for Kyle White in his Hynudai I20R5.

Kyle and Emily were seeded at car 14 and would run at the sharp end of the rally competing with British Rally Championships talented, top seeded crews.

By the end of Friday night after SS2 they had Finished 16thO/A and in a great position showing great pace going into Saturday. “The pace by all the crews was very fast,” said Emily.

But halfway through SS3 Clatterin Kist on Saturday sadly the pair had to retire their Hyundai with water pump failure. “Its always disappointing not to finish a rally, but to not finish your home event is truly gutting” said Emily and went on to say “beginning to think this Rally is cursed for myself and Kyle with only two finishes out of seven starts between us”.

It must have been a tough one to take for Emily And Kyle with lots of family and friends waiting in service and never arrive. But preserving the car for the next event has to be crucial.

Emily’s next event “should be a bit of fun with my other half,” said Emily The Mewla Rally on Sunday 25th August. We wish them luck!

The event was won by previous John Easson Award Winner and former European Rally Champion Chris Ingram and Alex Kihurani. This wasn’t before an epic battle with 2011 John Easson Award Winner Osian Pryce who lost crucial time with a spin on SS5 Duris. Losing 27s and with it any chance of the lead. But Osian making up 7s on SS6 but dropped 9s on the next. This was a battle which went all the way to the end where Chris came out in first place. “Fair play to Chris he drove very well” said Osian.

The 2024  John Easson Award entry opens on the 1st of September. Details will be published here on our website.
