Its Wet Wet Wet for Ifan and Luke on Yorkshire Dales Rally

In conditions described as the “worst I’ve ever seen” Ifan Devine was happy just to get his driver Luke Constantine across the finish line of yesterday’s Yorkshire Dales Rally.

Torrential rain and 60mph wind lashed the closed-road stages around Leyburn – not ideal weather to debut their brand new Opel Corsa Rally4.

“It was challenging, there’s no doubt about that. The run through SS7 Whitaside was unbelievable, you just couldn’t see anything,” explained Ifan, our reigning John Easson Award winner.

“We were just very happy to get the car home in one piece, that’s for sure.

“A puncture and a spin on SS3 Whitaside cost us some time, and we had a few issues with the rear suspension. It’s a new car and it understandably hasn’t been dialed in exactly as Luke wants it, but those are things than can soon be sorted.

“Despite the weather, the rally itself was fantastic, the roads were amazing and full credit to Northallerton Automobile Club for a brilliant event. We’d also like to say a big ‘thank you’ as well to all the marshals, including the team from the 2300 Club, who endured the appalling conditions.”

Luke and Ifan are out again in two weeks time, for the Severn Valley Stages, the opening round of the British Rally Championship.

Said Ifan: “This is where is all gets very serious and we both get fully focused on getting the best possible start to our campaign.”
