The highs and lows of rallying were never more apparent than when Ioan Lloyd contested the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire last weekend.
The penultimate round of the British Rally Championship saw our John Easson Award winner full of confidence, and looking forward to competing on some classic forest stages – including Dalby in the dark.
Lloyd and co-driver Sion Williams got off to a flier on the opening test on Friday night, taking second fastest in the Junior BRC class despite a spin in their West Wales Rally Spares Peugeot 208R4.
But their promising start evaporated on Saturday’s opening stage when the wheel studs sheared for no apparent reason, and they lost a wheel, forcing them out on the spot.
“We were absolutely gutted as we had a really good feeling in the car, and we’d set out to catch JBRC leader Eamonn Kelly. Unfortunately, our bad luck struck again,” said Ioan.
The pair will be back in action on the final round of the BRC, the Llandudno-based Cambrian Rally on October 29
