Rob’s BRC title goes down to the wire

‘To finish first, first you must finish’ is an oft-used sporting phrase.
But it accurately describes Rob Cotton’s aim on this weekend’s BRC finale in Wales.
The popular John Easson Award winner simply has to cross the finish line of the Cambrian Rally to win the coveted National Rally title.
But that’s not as easy as it looks, as Rob explained:
“All we have to do is get to the end, which sounds very straightforward. In reality, that’s really hard.
“This is my first time on the Cambrian, and we will have to drive at a reasonably fast but not take any risks. However, driving at a slower pace than you are used to can be fraught with problems.
“And, of course, mechanical issues can intervene at any time, which adds to the mental pressure on the day. One slip and it could hand the title to our season-long rival Chris Richmond-Hand.”
Rob will once again have the vastly-experienced Richard Crozier alongside to guide him through the stages.
The pair are seeded at car 27 in their Cotton Competition-prepared Subaru Impreza, and ahead of them lie six gravel stages in Clocaenog, Brenig and Elsi.
First car leaves the start on Llandudno Promenade at 8am on Saturday.
