Ifan Devine and Luke Constantine make their British Rally Championship debut this weekend on the Severn Valley Stages.
It’s home territory for our John Easson Award winner – but it is an event neither have contested before.
“This is where it all begins to feel very serious, and we need to be totally focussed on the job in hand,”explained Ifan, who lives in Caernarfon.
They have been buoyed by an excellent run on last month’s Yorkshire Dales Rally, bringing their brand new Opel Corsa Rally4 home in one piece in appalling conditions.
“The BRC is the place all aspiring rally drivers and co-drivers want to be, and we’re no different,” he added.
“Both Luke and I are under no illusion that the competition will be tough and the pace will be intense, but you need that to progress. ”
“The target will be to get some points on the board, learn some more about the car, and give ourselves the best possible start to our BRC campaign.”
Ifan and Luke are seeded at car 58 for the rally, which is a round of the BRC, British Historic and Welsh Championships, comprising 51 stage miles culminating in a daunting 18-miler in Myherin. The event starts and finishes at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells with a ceremonial start on Friday evening.
