Ifan Devine and Luke Constantine produced arguably the drive of the Mull 26 Rally to finish a brilliant 7th overall and second in class.
Our John Easson Award winner and his driver were up to an incredible third overall in their Opel Corsa Rally4, until two punctures in three stages dropped them down the order.
Their performance drew admiration from spectators and officials alike, with legendary Mull observer John Fife (aka Jaggy Bunnet) describing the result as ‘quite sensational’.
“The aim before we set out was to have a clean, risk-free run and we achieved that,” explained Luke.
“Obviously, we were slightly disappointed to miss out on a possible third overall when we lost 3 minutes on SS9 changing a wheel , and then again in SS11 when we picked up another puncture losing us four-and-a-half minutes.
“But, I am proud of the way we reacted, going on to set a second fastest overall time in between the two bad stages, and then mount a serious attack on the final leg with top five times on every stage including a third fastest on the long one.”
Added Luke: “ A big thank you to everyone involved in organising this fantastic event, and the marshals, medics and rescue teams, I can’t imagine the amount of work that’s gone into it. We completed full mileage with zero cancellations and the rally ran extremely smoothly.
“And to Ifan Devine, the man daft enough to sit beside me, it was a serious job as always. Although there are more holes in my leg than there was this time last week!”
