This weekend’s Argyll Rally marks the halfway stage in the Scottish Championship, and for Johnnie Mackay, a finish is the priority.
“We’ve done four rallies so far, three of them in the SRC, but two ended on the first stage,” said the John Easson Award winner.
“But it is my favourite rally, and I always seem to go well, so let’s hope it’s no different this year.
“Obviously, I’ll be looking for a good result, but more seat time with the Evo7 is really, really important as we go into the second half of the season.
“Looking at it positively, we’ve sorted the clutch and electrical issues which forced us out of the Jim Clark Reivers so early, I know the stages really well, and with the car all sorted and the recce done last weekend, I’ve had a fairly relaxing run-up to the rally.”
Johnnie and co-driver MIchael Cruikshank are seeded at car 41, for the Dunoon-based event.
The opening Friday night leg starts with two runs of the popular town centre stage, followed by a further four stages including the 14-mile Otter Ferry test.
Saturday morning sees crews tackle two loops of four stages before finishing back in Dunoon at around 5pm.
Added Johnnie: “Weather could play a big part this weekend. The forecast is rain, rain and more rain, so it’s going to be interesting for everyone.”
